9-12 Years

AN INTRODUCTION TO OUR PROGRAM
Our Montessori upper elementary (9-12) offers lasting benefits as a multi-age community similar to the Primary and Lower Elementary. By working closely with children for a period of three years, teachers know each child’s learning style, strengths, interests, and capabilities and can offer more effective lessons for meeting each child’s needs. Learning to become independent thinkers and self-directed are two developmental goals of the elementary program. We strive to understand and then challenge each child according to his or her developmental needs and capabilities.
Our elementary classrooms are exciting places of learning because the children are active participants in the exploration of ideas and concepts. Being an authentic Islamic Montessori, ILM aims to educate and raise children with a balance of social, intellectual, and spiritual growth by scaffolding the Montessori Elementary curriculum with strong Islamic values.
As at all Montessori levels, the Elementary program is based on the belief that children learn best through movement and work with their hands, and provides cognitive, social, and emotional support to help them reach their full potential.

A transition from concrete to abstract thinking
Growing interest in socialization
Thinking and memory that is enhanced by creativity and imagination
An interest in fairness, social justice, and compassion
